Anyone who harps on about GH3 completely downright sucking, I pity. As stupidly overcharted as a lot of it is, and as much as I want to murder whoever thought "Raining Blood" was a good choice for a song (and overcharting), and as much as I hate the new graphics, and the new timing windows, and the lack of Clive Winston and Eddie Knox, and the hippification of Xavier Stone, and the trampification of Judy Nails, and most of the game, it wins for the charting of, and for introducing me to, "Cliffs of Dover."

That song, out of everything I've played in the Guitar Hero franchise, still stands as the greatest joy to play. Even though GH2 tends to stay in the 360 as the Most Played Game in my collection, "Cliffs" will hold a special place in my heart.

Also fun despite (or maybe even because!) of overcharting, "Mauvais Garçon."

GH4 (aka Potentially Band Hero) and GH:A? Could be fun, and I'm interested in seeing what those installments bring before I judge. I already know RB will be my drug of choice come end of May, and will probably be for some time.

But for those of you hating on the Tony Hawk's Grooving Sound franchise, hold off until it is out, because chances are there'll be at least one thing you'll love about the upcoming installment.

Cliffs of Dover is effing awesome. It's easily the coolest song in GH3. I'd not heard it before playing through the game for the first time, and my immediate thought was "Someone took the chorus of Beast and the Harlot and extended it out to an entire song? HEAVEN!" (Granted, it predated BatH by a good decade, but still.)

I absolutely LOVE Cliffs of Dover. I went out and bought the song offa iTunes to put on my iPod even. The chart is fun (on Hard, I still can't play GH Expert), unlike so many of the absolutely punishing songs, so it's still great to play.

I play GH2 for Sweet Child of Mine and Jessica, I still think it has a better track list than 3... it's what I'm -usually- playing if I'm not in Rock Band.

I've always thought Cliffs of Dover was an awesome song. I agree with the general message of your post, though, and I do agree that GH3 is almost worth getting just for that song. It's certainly worth a rent or borrow: I've played the song and it rules.

I just don't feel that the remaining points in your first paragraph are enough to outweigh it. There's plenty of good songs in Rock Band to tide me over until Cliffs of Dover is released as a download track, or until GH3 makes its way to the bargain bin.

Yup, that song is pretty much the only reason we were considering picking up GH3 on 360 with this week's Gamestop coupon. [livejournal.com profile] aquahaute loves it to death, and I like it a lot too. We'd never heard of it before GH3 either.

I still dislike the game as a whole for the "difficult just for the sake of being difficult" factor, though.
