In today's economy, should you pick up virtually any job that will hire you, or should you wait until you find one that's relevant to your intended/field of expertise?

I'd take on a job just to have income, and keep looking for other work while at the "it'll do for now" job.

Yep. What he said. Take any job you can. Then, if (yeah.. if) the dream job comes along, you can always quit the first.
