In today's economy, should you pick up virtually any job that will hire you, or should you wait until you find one that's relevant to your intended/field of expertise?

I'd take on a job just to have income, and keep looking for other work while at the "it'll do for now" job.

Yep. What he said. Take any job you can. Then, if (yeah.. if) the dream job comes along, you can always quit the first.

I'd take any job, which is what I'm going to have to do myself. Been looking for a 2nd part time job since April >.

If the money is good, and the work seems reasonable, go for it.

You can /always/ look later for the 'perfect' job, and having a steady income makes life a lot easier.

The value of temping

If you really need income, get whatever you can that isn't going to kill you with boredom. Temporary work is probably a good way to go - nearly every job I've held (except for my first one, in retail) was found through Manpower, one of the bigger and better temp agencies around.
If, on the other hand, you're fairly comfortably off for the time being, you might consider focusing on the search for your dream job - and pick up short-term or medium-term work on the side if need be (again, I suggest temp agencies).
