Okay, so you've probably seen links to the Nickelback stereo mix song page. I was playing the mix for Genc when one of our regular Wolfenstein players overhears, and goes, "Hey, Nickelback! I LOVE that song!"

To which I replied, "Which one?"

Insert awkward pause filled with Nickelback stereo goodness.

EDIT: After listening to [livejournal.com profile] laechim talk, I tried making the mix myself. It doesn't sync the way the aforementioned Nickelback Stereo Mindfuck does. The two songs are edited from the original versions--both had about eight measures removed from different spots, and Someday changed key and was sped up to match the mix. I still stick to my belief that, at the very least, it's hilarious as hell.

Plus, another argument as to how similar the two songs sound echoes in my mind from an earlier conversation, when I ran into the girl from the bookstore on the train. Planning on showing this to her, I asked her if she knew and/or liked Nickelback. She said something along the lines of, "Yeah, the one that goes 'how the hell did we end up like this?'" I asked her if she heard their other single, the one that went, "This is how you remind me," and she exclaimed, "yeah, THAT'S the one I like!"

Even if the eating of this pudding is doctored proof, I stand by my original conclusion.

I always thought Nickelback was a one trick pony. It's kinda embarrassing that they're Canada's biggest musical act right now.

I'm glad someone other than me has noticed that Nickelback produces the exact same crap for every release. I heard their second song and I was like, "Did they redo 'How You Remind Me'?" and my friend was like, "No, this is a new song." And I said, "Well, shit. They're like the Backstreet Boys!"

On top of that, it isn't like Nickelback was terribly original in the first place. Granted, not every musician can be terribly original, but I think the fact that they can't seem to deviate from their own work makes a serious statement about their creative potential (or lack thereof).

Oh, so *that's* who it was by... Nickelback... of course I've never heard of them, so knowing the name wouldn't have helped.

A colleague (who's since left work) played that for me about a month ago. He had to explain what was going on before I realised - I thought they just had some kind of complicated vocal pattern thing going on :) It is really stunning.

He just said it was some random soft metal band, I think... I didn't realise they were actually popular somewhere. Didn't that style... you know... like.... die about fifteen years back? Ah well...

I'm going to be shot for this, but...

A) Yes, "How You Remind Me" and "Someday" are BEATLY similar. Expect that of radio play.

However, that's where the similarities end with their new album, "The Long Road".

The new album is a more refined effort on their part than their previous albums (though those were good to my ears, your mileage may vary), and I consider it good recommendation (if you're not into immediately damning any and all things Billboard, anyway *shrug*).

I think I feel a soapbox comming on. But not here, that'd be rude.
