Ever since Champloo bit it, I've been pondering ever so passively about acquiring a new computer.

Well, here we go:

Proc: 15625 - INTEL Quad Core I7-920 2.66GHz + Ventilateur [ LGA1366 - 8MB - QPI 4800 MT/s ] = 363.60
130W
Mobo: 15676 - ASUS P6T ( Intel X58/ICH10R - Socket 1366 - QPI 6400 MT/s ) = 298.80
RAM: 17132 - DDR3 4GB [2x2GB] DDR1333 (PC3-10600) - KINGSTON Value [KVR1333D3N9K2/4G] 115.40 x 2 = 330.80
Case: 10882 - Boitier Tour ANTEC Nine Hundred BoƮtiers pour jeux ( 3 x 5.25 ) = 135.60
Vid: 32318 - ASUS ENGTS250 DK/HTDI/1GD3 PCIe ( GeForce GTS250 1024MB 2xDVI HDTV HDCP ) = 183.40
Power: 11588 - Alimentation 620W CORSAIR HX Series [CMPSU620HXEU] = 1157.80
Sound: Cannibalize from Champloo
DVD: Cannibalize from Champloo

HDDs:
2x 250GB Samsung Spinpoint F1 (16MB) [HD252HJ] 55.30 x 2 = 110.60
2x 1.5TB Samsung SpinPoint F2EG [HD154UI] 141.80 x 2 = 283.60

Thinking of dubbing it "Tomato" (as in Ed's computer) or "Angel Arms" (after Trigun). Its primary purpose will probably be media server (ripping, streaming, storing, converting), but I do want to play games on it too.

What do you think, sirs?

Media server, huh? Hm...

Lore?

The only "Lore" I can think of is Data's evil twin, and I doubt that's what you have in mind.

"Mentor" kinda strikes me, but I've been in a Captain Power mood the last couple of days.

Zalman PSUs are absolute crap (except their super high end 1000W+ ones. You're better off going with a more reputable supplier, like Seasonic or Corsair.

I'm extremely fond of my Antec P182 case by the way - have a look and compare it to the one you picked.

What are you planning on doing with the HDDs btw? If RAID, what kind of setup? I seriously recommend avoiding a raid 1 on the boot drive, and even if you do have it on the data drive, get a UPS. Any power failure is going to screw up a raid 1 array in ways much worse than a regular single drive. Raid 0 actually recovers more gracefully from it.

I changed the PS to a Corsair HX 620W. It got pretty much uniformly good reviews on Newegg and was cheaper, so.

I was thinking about RAID striping the disks together-- the 250GB disks would become one large (and fast) 500GB system partition, whereas the 1.5TB disks would be the main storage. This is mostly going to be about speed rather than stability.

Besides, watching a RAID 0 disk defrag is ultra sexy for some reason.

I was very briefly considering striping two SSDs together for the system partition but CHFCHFCHF

Lastly, the P182 looks sexy but is double the price of the 900, so I think I'm going to pass for that alone...
