Okay, so today's Dilbert Feed strip (from last Sunday in the newspapers) has apparently generated a huge debate about MP3 piracy. As graciously pointed out in JF's Fandom Wank community (though I ran into it myself before clicking back to the FW post), someone makes the following stupid statement:

"Eh, downloading music is fuckin dumb anyways.. Not because its illegal or taking away from the artists.. but its just so cheap and cold.. You've reduced everything about the music to 0s and 1s."

The first thought in my mind was something along the lines of: "BWAHAHAHA!" followed by, "I take it this guy only listens to LPs and analog tapes."

Later on in a followup comment, he says:

"I just prefer owning the actual record or CD."

That's right, folks, he buys CDs. Which leads me to point out the following gap in logic:

"Has it occurred to you that CDs are digital, too, thereby in fact reducing the music to 0s and 1s?"

Will post when I receive response, if that happens. Thank you, JF_FW, for brightening my day (with both this and--damn you, miggy!--CrystalWank).

I'd look if I didn't already have a strong, violent dislike of that particular community.

He took my comment as an affront to those who buy music in shops. I then, basically, said "What're you talking about? I'm not going to make fun of people who pretty much do the same thing I'm doing. You said a stupid thing and I'm exercising my right to make fun of it." At which point he said, "Oh, okay. Sorry I jumped on you like that."
